Position Description

REGIONAL COMMUNICATIONS VOLUNTEER

Full time – 37.5 hours week

PREAMBLE

Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organisation, at work in more than 50 countries, which has a mission to accompany, serve and defend the rights of refugees and displaced people. Established by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1980, JRS is a worldwide network of associates and institutions of this Catholic religious order. It serves refugees, offering them practical and spiritual support, according to their humanitarian needs, regardless of their beliefs.

JRS seeks volunteers and staff who share its vision of accompanying refugees and who are prepared for its complex tasks. JRS volunteers and staff may be lay persons, Jesuits or members of a religious congregation. JRS seeks specialists in education, counseling, rehabilitation, management and related fields, and especially with experience in training others. There are also needs for people with technical skills, especially in communication, law, agriculture and small-scale development work.

In addition to the desire to serve refugees and asylum seekers, human maturity, considerable flexibility of temperament and a capacity to understand refugees and their circumstances without losing objectivity, these five qualities are essential:

  • commitment to training others,
  • capacity for teamwork and community living,
  • acceptance of a simple lifestyle,
  • openness to share in a faith journey,
  • precise professional expertise to offer.

The Southern Africa Region currently hosts programs in 5 countries. It is supported by a Regional Office whose task is to lead, support and provide resource for the work of each existing country team, to identify new needs and where necessary to initiate projects or conversely to implement exit plans for existing projects. It is directly responsible for fundraising, financial management and operational oversight of all the JRS works in the Southern African region.

TASKS:

  • Help create and disseminate content through social media tools (Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc)

  • Assist in implementation of regional communications plan, including newsletters and other publications

  • Assist with design of communications campaigns

  • Assist with collection of stories, testimonies, photos, videos and other communication materials from the field

  • Help develop an advocacy work plan for the region

  • Compassion for refugees and displaced people, and strong motivation to work with them.
  • Good pastoral sense, with the ability to listen and negotiate, good personal communications skills and capacity to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Flexibility and ability to work in less than optimal infrastructure conditions.

  • Authority is limited to the tasks described above. Any variation requires supervisory approval.

Qui peut se joindre au JRS ?

Le JRS cherche des bénévoles et du personnel qui partagent sa vision d’accompagnement des réfugiés et qui sont préparés pour remplir ces tâches complexes. Les bénévoles et le personnel JRS peuvent être des laïcs, des Jésuites ou des membres d’une congrégation religieuse. Le JRS cherche des spécialistes en éducation, conseil psychosocial, réhabilitation, gestion et domaines relatifs, et spécialement ayant l’expérience de former d’autres personnes. Il y a aussi besoin de personnes avec compétences techniques, spécialement en communication, droit, agriculture et développement à petite échelle.

Quelles sont les qualités que requiert le JRS ?

Avant tout, l’évident désir de servir les réfugiés et les demandeurs d’asile, avoir de la maturité humaine, une considérable souplesse de caractère, et la capacité de comprendre les réfugiés et leurs situations sans perdre l’objectivité. En outre, ces cinq qualités sont essentielles :

  • Accepter une façon de vivre simple
  • Ouverture d’esprit pour partager son espoir
  • Avoir à offrir des compétences et une expérience professionnelle précises

Creado por la Compañía de Jesús (jesuitas) en 1980, el JRS es una red mundial de asociados e instituciones de esta orden religiosa católica. Sirve a los refugiados ofreciéndoles apoyo práctico y espiritual de acuerdo con sus necesidades humanitarias, independientemente de sus creencias.
 
¿Quién puede unirse al JRS?

El JRS busca voluntarios y personal que comparta su visión de acompañar a los refugiados y que esté preparado para sus complejas tareas. Los voluntarios y el personal pueden ser laicos, jesuitas o miembros de una congregación religiosa. El JRS busca especialistas en educación, atención psicosocial, rehabilitación, gestión…, especialmente, personas con experiencia en formar a otras personas. También se necesita gente con conocimientos técnicos, especialmente en comunicación, leyes, agricultura y desarrollo a pequeña escala.

¿Qué cualidades pide el JRS?

Aparte del obvio deseo de servir a los refugiados y solicitantes de asilo, de madurez humana, una considerable flexibilidad de temperamento y una capacidad de entender a los refugiados y sus circunstancias sin perder la objetividad, estas cinco cualidades son esenciales:

  • compromiso en formar a otrcapacidad de trabajar en equipo y de vivir en comunidad,
  • aceptación de un estilo de vida sencillo,
  • sinceridad para compartir un viaje de fe,
  • experiencia profesional que ofrecer.

C’è anche bisogno di persone con competenze tecniche, specialmente nella comunicazione, nell’area giuridica, nell’agricoltura e nel lavoro di progetti di micro-sviluppo.

Che qualità richiede il JRS?

Oltre, ovviamente, a desiderio di servire i rifugiati e i richiedenti asilo, maturità, notevole flessibilità caratteriale e capacità di comprendere i rifugiati e le situazioni in cui si trovano senza perdere obiettività, sono essenziali queste cinque qualità:

  • impegno capacità di lavorare in team e di vivere in comunità,
  • accettazione di uno stile di vita semplice,
  • disponibilità a condividere un percorso di fede,
  • precise competenze professionali da mettere in campo.
